The salient Folder Groups of the Institute of Jesuit History Collection are its administrative papers and the professional papers of its Jesuit members, namely, Ernest J. Burrus, Gerardo Decorme, Jean Delanglez, Gilbert J. Garraghan, Jerome V. Jacobsen, and William E. Shiels.

The Folder Group titled Administrative Papers contains business papers, financial records, Mid-America magazine correspondence, and Institute of Jesuit History correspondence. This Folder Group measures 1 linear foot.

The professional papers of two Jesuits, Ernest J. Burrus and Gerardo Decorme, are each a Folder Group of one folder. The Burrus Folder Group measures 0.5 linear foot; the Decorme Folder Group, 0.25 linear foot.

Jesuit Jean Delanglez’ professional papers comprise a Folder Group that includes a folder of biographical materials and several folders organized by topics, namely, archival sources, documents and notes, indices, maps, and subjects (arranged both alphabetically and chronologically). This Folder Group measures 3.1 linear feet.

The Folder Group titled Professional Papers of Jesuit Gilbert J. Garraghan contains records of the Indian Office in Washington, DC, materials on the Indian Territory, journals, and a 1922 map of the Missouri Province of the Society of Jesus. Also included are folders with Garrraghan’s journals, research source materials, publications, and an unpublished manuscript. Completing the Garraghan Folder Group are two significant tools: a chronological card index and a set of twelve folders containing indices organized by geographic area (California, Kentucky Mission, Maryland, New Orleans Mission, New York Mission, and Rocky Mountain Mission), by source or referent of contents (France, Turin Province, and the Jesuit Felix Sopranis), and by more general categories (Letters and Notices, Woodstock Letters, and Various Indices). This Folder Group measures 6.7 linear feet.

The professional papers of Jesuit Jerome V. Jacobsen comprise a Folder Group representing his scholarly work—articles, journals, and bibliographies—as well as his educational work—classroom resources, maps, and various student assignments. This Folder Group measures 10.4 linear feet.

In the Folder Group of Jesuit William E. Shiels's professional papers are found documents from a variety of archival sources—the Archives of the Province of Mexico (documents from the Superior General, 1582-1659), the Regis College Archives (Toronto), the Archivum Generale Societatis Jesu, the Archivo General de Indias (indices, manuscripts, and maps), and the Archives of the German Province. Also in this Folder Group are folders of reference source materials, research materials, and documents found by Shiels on a trip through the Midwest United States in 1936. There are three additional folders: one of materials on Pedro de Molina (1725), one of materials on the Jesuits of the Missouri Province, and one with photocopied excerpts of João Lúcio de Azevedo's book (in Portuguese) Os jesuitas no Grão-Pará: suas missões e a colonizaçáo [The Jesuits in the Gráo-Pará (Amazon Region of Brazil): Their Missions and the Settlement] (Coimbra: Imprensa da Universidade, 1930; first edition, Lisbon: T. Cardoso, 1901). This last Folder Group measures 3 linear feet.
