Shane L. Mulligan Shane, 20, graduated from SLUH in 2006 and spent one year at Saint Louis University before entering the Society of Jesus in August 2007. During his first year of novitiate he taught English as a second language school to middle-aged Somali, Hispanic and Southeast Asian immigrants. For hospital experiment he went to L'Arche Cleveland, living and working in a house with persons with disabilities for five weeks. For pilgrimage, he headed south, with the intention of getting to better know the Jesuits in the Missouri and New Orleans Provinces. He successfully accomplished his goal through a trek of a few thousand miles, mostly via Greyhound Bus. In all, he estimates he met over 300 Jesuits, from St. Louis to Denver, from Albuquerque to Houston, from New Orleans to Kansas City. During the fall of 2008 he will be taking a variety of classes at the novitiate on all things Jesuit. He is also doing ministry twice a week at Urban Ventures, a faith-based urban renewal organization that helped Cristo Rey Jesuit High School in Minneapolis get off to a good start in August 2007.
