About ASC

The Alum Service Corps is a volunteer organization sponsored by the Jesuits of the Missouri Province and the domestic Jesuit high schools of the province, namely St. Louis U. High, De Smet Jesuit, Rockhurst High School, Regis Jesuit, and Arrupe Jesuit. ASC volunteers are graduates of Jesuit high schools who give back a year of their life in service as thanksgiving for their Jesuit education. Volunteers serve as faculty members in Jesuit high schools and contribute in a variety of ways, including: teaching classes, academic counseling and tutoring, pastoral activities (e.g., retreats and liturgy), service program activities, coaching and athletic training, student government projects, fine arts activities (e.g., music, theater, art), school publications, science and computer lab moderator, computer tech, development office and admission projects, even driving buses. Most importantly, ASC volunteers are available to respond to the needs of the schools as they develop throughout the year. Participating schools provide the volunteers with housing, a community car (and gas), health insurance, and a modest monthly stipend. ASC volunteers gather weekly with their school’s Jesuit community for Mass and dinner, and enjoy the support of the Jesuit community throughout the year. Volunteers strive to grow spiritually through their service by living in community and maintaining a simple lifestyle. The year of service begins with a two week orientation in July and is marked by four retreats throughout the year. ASC XVII (L-R): Tommy Ryan, Kevin Reardon, Billy Morrison, Mike Kroeker, Mike Blodgett, Brian Gilmore, Jim Fox, Steve Sulewski, John Pimmel, Adam Blinzler, Howie Place, and Tony Cattaneo.
