On Monday, September 29 former Jesuit Volunteers, supporters and friends gathered for a reunion and celebration of the Jesuit Volunteer Corps’ (JVC) service to the city of St. Louis. John and Joan Vatterott hosted the event at Loyola Academy to introduce St. Louis supporters to Angie Moloney, JVC’s new Executive Director.
“JVC is committing more than 10,000 hours of direct service to the poor in St. Louis, and saving our partner organizations more than $100,000 this year so they are free to offer more comprehensive services to those most in need,” said Moloney as she addressed the crowd. Moloney came to JVC last year as the Executive Director of Nazareth Farm in West Virginia. She and her husband lived the core JVC values as they lived in community for three years in West Virginia, committed to simplicity and social justice.
“We are fortunate to have such solid leadership. Not only is Angie a competent administrator, she understands the personal and social power within the service experience that can transform our relationship with God and one another,” observed Sean Agniel, Provincial Assistant for Social Ministries and the Province representative on the board for JVC: Midwest.
Fr. Tim McMahon SJ, Provincial, and Mr. Kevin Lee, president of Loyola Academy, welcomed the guests and testified to the impact JVC has had on Jesuit communities and Loyola Academy, respectively. Justin Genovese, a current Jesuit Volunteer in St. Louis, shared how he has begun to feel “ruined for life” through JVC’s core values, or pillars: community, simplicity, spirituality, and social justice.
Both Angie and emcee John Vatterott reminded the crowd of the importance of the work of JVC and invited each person to make an investment in the future of JVC Midwest and the lives of those this work touches.
