The Ignatian Volunteer Corps or IVC (www.ivcusa.org) proudly announces the commissioning of 11 Ignatian Volunteers for a term of service from September 2008 through June 2009. The six returning and five new Ignatian Volunteers have committed to serving the poor in St. Louis two days a week (or 12-15 hours). Banding together a wide variety of talents and life experiences, each Ignatian Volunteer manifests a desire to grow in their relationship with God and their commitment to justice through Ignatian service to the poor.
Fr. Tim McMahon SJ, Provincial for the Jesuits of the Missouri Province, celebrated Mass at the Ignatian Volunteer Corps orientation and welcomed them for lunch at the province offices. In his homily he praised the Ignatian Volunteers for their commitment to the poor: “Through your service you probe the core of Christianity: loving other people and loving God with all your mind, heart, soul, and strength.”

The Ignatian Volunteer Corps is a service organization in the Jesuit tradition for retired men and women over the age of 50. Ignatian Volunteers gather together monthly for prayer and reflection on their service, and they meet regularly one-on-one with a trained spiritual reflector. Those seeking a substantive service experience in solidarity with the poor and within the context of Ignatian spirituality are encouraged to apply.
